Hannah was born in a place called Under the Vale of the White Horse Hill, in the parish of Uffington, near Great Farringdon, in Berkshrie, England.
After her first husband, Joseph, died in an accident in the Thames River, she earned money to keep her family by sewing smocks. She was an excellent sewer.
Three years later, she married William Irons, and they, along with many of her brothers and sisters, joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Of her 9 children, only 3 remained in England, the others emigrated to and settled in Utah. With the help of her children, Hannah and her second husband, William Irons, were able to join her family in Utah, where they settled in Ogden.
The date of Hannah’s arrival is not known at this time, however it would likely soon follow this entry in James’ first journal. James stated on August 15, probably 1873, that he sent $50 to help his mother emigrate to Utah.
Hannah passed away in Ogden at the age of 86 on 1 October 1883, and was buried in the Kaysville Cemetery on 3 Oct. 1883.16
