William Barker is my 2nd Great-grandfather. He was born on this day in 1833.
William Barker’s father, Frederick Barker sailed from England to America on 23 March 1830 with his siblings, George, Frederick, James and Harriet Barker Jarrell and their families.
Frederick and William’s mother, Ann Blygh had 6 children born in Diss, Shelfanger, England: Matilda b. 1823, Mary Ann b. 1825, James b. 1827, Baxter and Sarah (twins) b. 1829, and William b and d. 1831.
They located first at LeRay, Jefferson County, New York, about 25 miles from the Canadian border. (In the 1830 census of LeRay, Jefferson Co., NY, both Frederick and brother George were listed as Parker.)
William Barker, my 2nd Great-grandfather was the first family member born in America. He was named after his brother, William who died at birth. Frederick and Ann Barker had 6 more children, 13 total: Harriet b. 1835, Daniel b. 1837, Jane Isabella b. 1839, Henry b. 1840, Byron b. 1842, and Rhoda b. about 1850.
After 1837 the family moved a mile or so south to Watertown.
