Helena Charlotte Anderson < Ida Roxana Bushman < Jacob and Charlotte Bushman
My heritage has been a source of great pride to me, It is a blessing of great magnitude to be born of goodly parents. Ida Roxanna Bushman Anderson was my mother. She was a daughter of Jacob Bushman and Charlotte Turley Bushman. I feel especially happy that my parents gave me the name Helena Charlotte Anderson. I wish that I might have known my grandmother,’ Charlotte. I have been told that she was a beautiful woman.
I was born in Fairview, Utah on Dec. 15, 1913. My college days were spent at Snow College and Brigham Young University, and in 1935 I married Reed W. Brinton in Salt Lake City, Utah. We have three sons and two grandsons.
Reed was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 20, 1915. His parents were Wollerton Huffaker and Jane Hamilton Brinton. He has been an agent for New York Life Insurance Company for 37 years. Because of this affiliation, we have traveled a great deal to attend conventions and seminars. At many of these meetings he has been the featured speaker. He has had national recognition in the insurance field. At present he is a member of a special committee preparing a book “The Psychology of Selling.” It will be published by the “Million Dollar Round Table”-an insurance organization. Reed has served as a Regent for the University of Utah for 8 years, and is now concluding 4 years on the Institutional Council.
We value our church membership, and feel that is an important part of our lives, I have served as a counselor in Primary, a secretary in Relief Society, and as organist in Parley’s First Ward for ten years. Reed filled an Eastern States mission, and has been a member of a Sunday School presidency, a Boy Scout counselor, and an MIA president.
I have enjoyed the opportunity to work in the P.T.A. serving as the president at Hillside Junior High in 1952-53. My boys are Life and Eagle Scouts, and I treasure my memories of those years, and the fun I had as a den mother when they began their scouting activities. At the University of Utah, it was my privilege to be President of the Sigma Chi Mothers Club in 1962-63; Garden Arts president in 1966-67; and I am active in the Symphony Guild and Ladies Literary Club at the present time.
